Chalkboards to Chatbots- Exploring Edtech Tools for English Teachers and Sharing Some Emerging Best Practices
This plenary argues that generative AI is both an evolutionary extension of past edtech and a revolutionary shift in what English teachers can do, then walks teachers through concrete classroom uses of AI framed by TESOL and ISTE best-practice principles. Audience and purpose The session was a plenary at the 2023 Defense Language Institute English Language Conference, with roughly 200 English teachers in attendance. This talk’s aim was to help working teachers make sense of “chalkboards to chatbots” as a 25-year arc of changing tools rather than an abrupt, faddish disruption.
